The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Life for a Child Program signed an MOU with the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Human Services, and Gender Relations, and the SLDHA in January last year. We have been able to help with sending in blood glucose meters and strips as well as educational materials, and also arranged a teaching visit by a pediatric endocrinologist from the US (Dr. Jadranka Popovic).
Children and youth with diabetes can be enrolled in the program up to the age of 23 years and supported until they turn 26 years. Support should only go to those families who do not have sufficient resources or government/insurance support of their own.

The St. Lucia Diabetes & Hypertension Association (SLDHA) was conceptualized on August 9, 1983 and nationally launched in April, 1989. It was established to attend to the welfare of diabetic and hypertensive individuals in St. Lucia, as well as to provide service to the general public.
